When I walked in the door my husband took one look at lil Tiki and said "I know your good but there's no way you can keep this baby alive.  You see I had rescued many a chicken, rabbit but I had never hand fed a baby bird. I was really scared, but I was also determined so I just gathered as much information and just got down to it.     Tiki bird taught me so much.   At 10 weeks old we found out he had splay legs.   Never even heard of that before.  I was horrified, but once again I just gathered as much information as I could and just got down to it.  Tiki-bird  spent a month in a coffee cup with a makeup sponge wrapped around him, (see picture below)  I am very  proud to say that he is a healthy, beautiful bird today.  (also picture below).  When he was 1 year old we decided to get him a mate. I decided to try and handfeed their babies and that is when I really fell in love with hand feeding and caring for baby birds.  I am proud to say that Tki-bird and Miss Emily have fathered quite a few clutches for us.  



UPDATE ON TIKI BIRD

We lost Ms. Emily so we kept one of her and Tiki birds many babies who as it turned out was a male so we just kept Tiki bird and son together so that Tiki bird wouldn't be alone. This summer we decided to get a female for each of them.   Wow that really made for some happy birds.   I am proud to say that SON and his partner just had their first baby bird yesterday....Will let you know how Tiki bird does..I'm sure it is just a matter of time for him too.....So it looks like we're back in the lovebird breeding business..lol......
